Cornerstone awarded with $100,000 from HCA Uninsured Care Expansion Grant
Let’s congratulate Cornerstone for receiving $100,000 grant. Cornerstone is one of the 48 awardees of the HCA Uninsured Care Expansion Grant.
The Health Care Authority (HCA) announced early this year that they received $35 million in federal resources for the provision of health care services for uninsured and underinsured individuals under 200 percent of the federal poverty level, regardless of immigration status.
Dr. M Mia Lee applied for expansion grant funds in April and was notified that we were awarded in June 2022. Fund was supposed to be allocated as a lump sum by July 31, 2022. Our clinic received $100,000.00 in direct deposit into CMSF account on September 23rd, the full amount we had applied. This fund needs to be managed responsibly with an interim report by June 2023 and used up completely by June 30th of 2024 followed by the final report to HCA.
The following is what the applicant Dr. Myungja Mia Lee said:
“Last April, while updating our clinic membership of WHAA(Washington Healthcare Access Alliance), Washington’s free clinic association, I saw an announcement for the grant application which was specifically for the uninsured care. As our clinic is a free clinic which has been striving to care for the uninsured and underserved, I knew this is for us and started looking into it. After many emails, zoom meetings with HCA, I got to work on application which required many data including total visits and demographics of our patients and common diagnoses and types of care we provide etc. When it came to writing of proposal I got a huge help from Dave Young one of our student volunteers who has worked at other community clinic and had written similar grant applications. He was not only encouraging and enthusiastic about the grant application but also an excellent writer.
We want to congratulate each and every one who has been volunteering at this clinic and who has helped in the past. We also would like to welcome ideas to implement and improve care we provide at the clinic using this grant money.
